After I got the grip on one side pretty much down to size, I carefully pried it off the gun, trying not to disturb the epoxy.
That left a ridge of dry epoxy on the inside of the grip that would hold it in position. Note the piece of tape on the as yet unformed second piece of antler--this was so I could hold it while I ground it thinner. Once I had the second piece ground to near the correct size, I epoxied it onto the gun and began to file it. When both grips were almost the correct size, I drilled them and fitted the grip screw bushing into the right-hand grip and the escutcheon into the left-hand grip. At this point, I was ready to assemble the grips, but I discovered that the original grip screw was not long enough for the new grips. I was very fortunate to find a screw of the correct size (metric 2.5), that would fit the gun and was made of stainless steel.
