After I had the grip ground fairly close to the correct size, I went to work on it with a rasp and a file. Once I got the grip almost right, I oiled the inside of the gun frame, put the grip on the gun, and applied epoxy glue all around the edge on the inside.  (I had drilled some holes part way through the antler to give the glue something to hold onto.) Once the epoxy dried, I could file the grips while on the gun. Note that I put heavy duct tape on the backstrap of the gun, and various other places, to try to reduce the number of file marks I got on the frame.
