The relative simplicity of the Bayard (top) is notable. The vertical steel bar on the side of the Escort is the ejector--aluminum would have been too soft, so a separate ejector had to be provided and fitted through the
slot near the top of the frame. The Bayard’s ejector is integral with the frame. The L-shaped disconnector on the Escort is visible, as is the manual safety lever, which merely disconnects the transfer bar but
provides no lock for the hammer or sear.
