Photograph of a Mauser Model 1909 in 6.35 mm, serial number 11 visible on trigger, from an original glass plate negative.  Note the recoil buffer spring, the end of which is visible on the slide just above the shooter’s trigger finger.  Note also the checkered safety release button, the latch for the barrel pin, and the protrusion on the side latch instead of a slot.  The schematic on the previous page is clearly based on this prototype, or one like it.
