See Al Stohlman’s book on Hand Sewing Leather for detailed instructions on double-stitching by hand. You can see me pulling the thread through a hole from left to right, and the other end of the thread hanging down on the other side of the holster. When I’ve pulled this thread through, I will run the other end of the thread through the same hole from right to left. Double-stitches are much stronger than interlocked machine stitches. With machine stitches, if a thread should break, the entire line of stitching will eventually unravel, but with handmade double-stitches the other thread will still be intact and nothing will unravel. |
