This image shows the sidelatch/trigger pin and trigger spring removed, but the trigger is in its correct position.  Note that the rear post of the barrel comes down and forms a point on which the trigger catch bears.  You can also see the sear lever with its projection on the top front, which is in lieu of a disconnector.  If the slide is not all the way forward, this projection cannot move upward and the gun cannot be fired.
