Unblinking Eye
                                   Mutabilitie Cantos

Poetry by Ed Buffaloe

IX.

Words so long silent
We no longer speak them
Lie chiseled in stone awaiting
Discovery by some mute quarryman

Ancient glyphs seek voice again
Call out as from a dream where
Sounds remain unintelligible
A mental genome reduced to babble

Phonemes rehearse themselves in vacuum
Silent speech for the dead
Whisper a song without words
Will be your only requiem
